Paper Machine - Wet End Rebuild Project

BIS Frucon Industrial Services was awarded an extensive project to execute a paper machine wet end  rebuild project at a paper making facility in the southeast region of the United States.  The project required complete demolition of the existing headbox and machine frames and the installation of a new headbox system, including new sole plates, machine framing members, headbox and controls.

This project also required our project management and construction team to modify or install additions to the following systems:

  • Machine frame members required specially tested welders and weld techniques.
  • All approach piping (welds) were required to pass a cotton ball test
  • Extensive shower piping relocations and modifications
  • Installation of new platforms and catwalks to accommodate the new headbox
  • Installation of drive panels, control boxes, power wiring and pneumatics to support the operation of the new headbox
  • Roll-to-Roll movement modificaitons at both ends of the paper machine

Completing this effort during a twenty-five day downtime window required the BIS Frucon Industrial Services team to oversee the coordination of its crews, as well as its subcontractors and other contractors hired by the owner.  A level 3 detailed project schedule was developed to track all activities ranging from pre-work, shutdown effort, static and dynamic checks, turnover and machine startup. The schedule was also used to manage hot work, confined space entry, and overhead crane usage.

BIS Frucon Industrial Services completed over 47,000 safe effort hours on this project and successfully achieved all of the project objectives. 1 before.jpg1 during.jpg1 after.jpg
